On a recent visit to Belgrade, Serbia, my wife and I had a chance to experience the tourism offerings of this capital city.

Situated at the confluence of the Danube and Sava Rivers on the Balkan Peninsula, Belgrade is emerging from the turmoil of the late 1990s and early 2000s as a regional center of commercial activity.

The investment of US$3 billion by the United Arab Emirates in a riverfront development project called ‘Belgrade on Water’ is a testament to the city’s emergence as a destination for capital and talent.

In the attached video, I share the story of our experience in Belgrade and some of the reasons why this city is well-positioned to be a thriving tourist destination in the years ahead.

In my opinion, with its dynamic, friendly population, Belgrade, and Serbia as a whole, will make a great addition to the European Union and to the Southeastern European travel circuit.

    I couldn’t agree with you more! Belgrade is still a hidden gem in Europe. I can only hope that it doesn’t become a tourist hot spot and develop commercially like other destinations. I was in Belgrade for the first time in 2014 and have returned three times since then. All for personal travel and to explore. There is definitely a great vibe there.

    Thank you Mike for the comment! We were very lucky to have experienced Belgrade before it gets ‘discovered’. We also had the chance to make it up to the fantastic cities of Novi Sad and Subotica. There is a lot of great tourism potential in those areas too! 🙂
